As the cornea loses its normal curvature, the eye struggles to focus light properly, resulting in distorted or worsening vision. Early on, glasses or specialty contact lenses may help manage symptoms. As the condition advances, however, procedures such as Intacs implantation may become an effective treatment option to stabilize the cornea and improve visual function.

Intacs are tiny, clear arcs of specialized plastic. They are inserted into the inner structure of the cornea to provide strength and stability. Some clients who were previously unable to wear contacts due to the discomfort associated with the misshapen cornea can now wear them comfortably, as the bulge is flattened.
